Blogging 201: The Why of Smiley?

I’m blogging because I’ve returned to my love of writing after many years neglecting it and I would like to make a career of it. I’m tired of living for the evening, for the weekend, for the holidays. When you work for someone else you are selling your time, your efforts. Your life. I went through film school and came out with a degree I never had an opportunity to use. I have skills and I want to live on them.  I want to pay the bills doing what I love. I want to be able to look anyone in the eye and say my skills pay the bills.

I’m blogging with a view to building my writing skills, a readership for my work and eventually stepping up to producing novels and essays and having them published one way or another.

I’m blogging because I have a hell of a lot of emotional baggage and writing helps me unpack so to speak. It helps me to understand who I am, what I think and how I feel.

I’m blogging because the only way to find your true voice is to use it.

My top three goals are:

·         To double my followers, twitter followers and daily hits by the end of April and to steadily increase them thereafter. I only have a few to begin with so my goal isn’t as ambitious as all that. 🙂

·         To get a first draft of my novel finished by the end of March and to publish at least 500 words on my blog three times a week.

·         To spend 20 minutes every day reading, sharing, commenting, participating and exploring my followers blogs

  1. Good goals and great attitude! I love this – “I’m blogging because I have a hell of a lot of emotional baggage and writing helps me unpack so to speak.” Don’t we all?! I probably unpack every time I pick up the pen! 😉 ~Elle

  2. Beautifully said 🙂 I’m rewriting yet again before publishing mine …between the question .. If your blog exceeded your wildest dreams, what would that look like? and the word branding .. a word I’m working on getting comfortable with ..only first I’m on the umpteenth coffee & visiting instead 😉

    • I know what you mean i spent all day reflecting and then the words flowed and i shocked myself with my true feelings. Not money, not fame, i just wanted to be good at what i loved to do. Good enough so it could be my day job. I look forward to reading yours. 🙂
